Incognito at North Sea Jazz Festival, 2003
It came as a surprise. A very nice one. Once more Isaac Hayes cancelled his appearance and Incognito was asked to replace him.
At one point in time I thought I had to go to the UK to be able to see Incognito live this year and not much later they played in Holland three times in no more than two months. A wonderful coincidence. May there be more like that.
The strategy for this Sunday July 13 was abunduntly clear from the beginning: find out on which of the two stages Incognito would perform and then make sure that we could make our way to that stage during the preceding performance by Candy Dulfer. Of course, we put our minds where our money was. Together with Rob and my old man (!) we worked our way forward during the end of the Chick Corea Electric Band show and when Candy Dulfer & Band were announced it was like the Red Sea parted and we were able to walk straight to the middle right in front of the stage. Mission accomplished.
Now the waiting commenced! Thanks to the wonderful show by Candy Dulfer this was not a hard task and about an hour and a half later it was curtain time. The band, minus the singers, were already on stage. Time to party. We could clearly see that Bluey was ready to enjoy himself, just like the others in the band. Surely it must be a kick to be able to play for 9,000 people. And everybody was liking it, most certainly afterwards.
Because the crowd was dancing along right from the start I was not really able to make pictures that were actually still, and the ones that made it up here are the best among them. Maybe I should consider buying a better camera with a couple of handy accesories ...
